Powerlifting in Chesterfield
Whatever your level, you are welcome here.

Whatever your level, you are welcome here.
Three movements: the squat, the bench press, the deadlift. Trained consistently and coached properly, they build more whole-body strength than almost anything else available in a gym.
At the Commando Temple Peak District, we teach the fundamentals of powerlifting — the technique, the mechanics, and the logic behind progressive loading. This is where serious strength training begins.
The most technical of the three, and the one most people approach with the most caution — often because nobody has ever properly explained it. We start with positioning, bracing and depth, and add load only when the movement is sound. A well-coached squat builds more leg, hip and back strength than most training approaches, and tends to make everything else physically easier over time.
The bench press demands more from the whole body than it appears to. Scapular position, leg drive, bar path — all of it matters, and all of it affects your shoulder health as much as your pressing strength. We teach the lift in full. Your strength will develop alongside your shoulder resilience, not at its expense.
The most instinctive movement in strength training — picking something up from the floor. Also one of the most commonly performed with form that quietly limits the lifter over time. A well-set-up deadlift is one of the most effective tools in training. We take the setup seriously.
Powerlifting at the Commando Temple Peak District is foundational and intermediate-level work — learning the lifts properly and building strength progressively. For experienced competitive powerlifters chasing platform totals, the Commando Temple in Deptford runs a specialist programme with dedicated coaches at that level. We will always be straight about where you will make the most progress.
The Equipment
Sessions are one-to-one or small group. Every session is coached, and every programme is adjusted based on what is actually happening — not a fixed plan that ignores progress or setbacks.
The Commando Temple was built on the idea that physical and mental strength develop together. Barbell training, done with care and coached properly, changes how people carry themselves — in the gym and beyond it. Learning to squat, press and pull with real technique and real load tends to build a kind of quiet confidence that does not come from anywhere else.
We also offer kettlebell training in our Chesterfield gym and a range of training programmes in our London gym including powerlifting – in case you are ever down that way.
