At the Commando Temple Peak District, calisthenics coaching is personal, structured and coached from the start. Sessions are one-to-one or small group. Every movement is taught properly, every progression is earned.
Calisthenics is the practice of learning to control and load your own bodyweight. Done with patience and the right coaching, it produces strength that transfers into everything else you do — hiking, climbing, sport, and ordinary life. Getting the foundations right is the training.
What You’ll Work On
We build from the movements that matter most:
Push and press patterns — from a technically sound push-up through to dip progressions, building upper body strength with good mechanics from the start
Pull strength — the quality most commonly missing from self-directed training, and one we address properly from your first session.
Core stability and body tension — difficult to fake, immediately noticeable when it’s there; the underlying skill in almost every bodyweight movement.
Hip hinge and squat mechanics — lower body patterns built to last, with joint health as a priority alongside strength
Every progression builds on the last. You will always know what you are developing and why.
Who Trains Here
People come to the Commando Temple Peak District from across Derbyshire and beyond. Many have an active outdoor life alongside their gym training — runners, hikers, climbers — and want strength that holds up in the field as well as the gym. Others are coming to structured coaching for the first time, or returning after injury or a long break. The coaching is personal enough to meet all of those starting points. Progress here is measured against where you started.
A Note on Level
Coaching at the Chesterfield base covers foundational to intermediate bodyweight strength. For people working toward advanced skills — muscle-ups, front and back levers, planches — the Commando Temple in Deptford runs a specialist programme with dedicated coaching at that level. We will always be straight about where you will make the most progress.
Getting stronger in here makes you stronger out there.
The Commando Temple was founded on the belief that getting physically stronger changes things beyond the gym — it builds resilience, sharpens focus and gives people a clearer sense of what they are capable of.
Calisthenics, taught properly and progressed with patience, delivers all of that. You develop genuine mastery over your own body, and that carries over.
Another great way to build up strength is with our kettelebell training, also available at our Chesterfield gym.
We also offer callisthenics training in London if you’re down that way.
