Train Like a Royal Marine: The Civilian’s Guide to Elite Fitness

Royal Marines are among the toughest, most capable individuals on the planet — physically and mentally. But you don’t have to be in the military to train like one.

At the Commando Temple, we give civilians access to military fitness training, grounded in the same principles that shape the UK’s most respected forces and created and run by ex-Royal Marine Commando Rob Blair.

Here’s how to do it — and why it’s more accessible than you might think.

1. Build Strength That’s Functional

Royal Marines don’t train for aesthetics (though it is often a generous bi-product).  They train to accomplish tasks and endure both physical and mental tasks that would otherwise eradicate the un-trained. That’s the kind of strength you’ll develop here.

We focus on developing:

  • Pain-free, healthy bodies and brains (the mind is primary… without it, we all fail!)

  • Stronger structures –  structure that never quits! Your muscles….bones…tendons…ligaments…you are as strong as your weakest link

  • Positive and respectful change within the body

It’s not about looking strong. It’s about being strong in real-world situations — whether that’s on a training field or navigating life under pressure.

2. Train Under Stress (Safely)

Royal Marines are expected to perform under intense conditions. Our training supports that journey by instilling a deeper sense of resolve and purpose when the £%it hits the fan

This teaches your body to recover quickly, stay calm, and function when your heart rate is up — a skill that translates into every area of life.

3. Develop Next-Level Endurance

Elite training requires elite stamina – the kind that’s built slowly and methodically.

We blend interval work, heart rate zone training, sustained efforts, and cross-modal conditioning to train both aerobic and anaerobic systems. You’ll be tested. But you’ll also learn how to pace, breathe, and keep going.

4. Embrace a Military Mindset

Perhaps the biggest difference isn’t physical — it’s mental.

Royal Marine-style training demands:

  • Discipline

  • Focus

  • Integrity

  • The ability to push past your comfort zone

These traits can be developed, and our coaches are here to guide you through that process.

You Don’t Have to Be in Uniform to Train Like the Best

Whether you’re preparing for the Forces, rebuilding after a setback, or simply want to live at a higher standard, this training will change how you see yourself, and what you’re capable of.

The world doesn’t hand out toughness. You build it one session at a time
