UK MILITARY GRADE STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING FOR CIVILIANS
One of the World´s Best Gyms in 2025 – Men´s Health
Looking to join the Armed Forces or simply want to test yourself against the same standards as the British Army, Royal Navy, RAF or Royal Marines? At Commando Temple, our military fitness trainers, led by ex-Royal Marine Commando Rob Blair, deliver structured, proven programmes that go far beyond a typical gym workout.
Whether you’re preparing for selection, improving performance, or on a mission to attain the discipline and resilience of military service, we’ll help you reach the next level.
Why Choose Military Fitness Training?
Military preparation requires more than just strength or stamina – it demands mental toughness, agility, and resilience. Our programmes are designed around military drills and conditioning workouts that replicate the challenges faced in service; for instance, carrying loads, running and making decisions under pressure, performing repeated sets, and sustaining endurance.
Military strength and conditioning requirements differ from those of your typical gym goer, and to have a good power-to-weight ratio, agility, resilience, and mental toughness are fundamental to all serving.
But its more nuanced than that because each military organisation requires a distinct set of criteria to be attained prior to joining. The coaching staff at the Temple will work alongside you to construct the strongest military fitness programme and route forward towards entering your chosen group.
As the armed forces hopeful or recruit conducts an ever-increasing amount of reps/ sets/ loads/ runs, etc, the chances of injury are usully high! We’ll work alongside you to keep you moving pain-free.
Tailored Programmes for Every Branch
We prepare recruits and civilians for the unique requirements of each branch of the armed services:
- British Army & Infantry Fitness Standards – build endurance for loaded marches, casualty drags and high-rep bodyweight work.
- Royal Marines Training – master the strength, stamina and determination needed for one of the world’s toughest military roles.
- Royal Navy Fitness Test Preparation – develop cardiovascular capacity, muscular strength, and core stability.
- RAF Fitness Training – improve speed, agility, and cardiovascular conditioning to excel in the RAF tests.

FAQs
What’s the difference between military fitness training and a normal gym workout?
Military training prepares you for the demands of service – loaded marches, combat tasks, endurance drills – not just lifting weights.
Do I need a military fitness trainer before joining the Army?
While not compulsory, working with a trainer massively increases your chances of passing the British Army or Royal Marines fitness tests on the first attempt.
Can I train for the RAF or Navy fitness tests here?
Yes. We run tailored programmes for all branches of the armed forces.
Do you offer online military training?
Yes, if you can’t get to London or the Peak District, we provide online coaching and programmes.

“I trained with Rob three times a week for a month before starting at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for my army officer training. Gyms being closed over lockdown and a niggling wrist injury left me feeling wholly unprepared to start my course and so I felt I’d struck gold when I found The Commando Temple and a personal trainer who specialised in getting people ready to join the military. The sessions were hard but incredibly rewarding as I witnessed myself getting fitter, stronger, faster and improving on my stats week on week. I was worried about my wrist injury impacting on my ability to pass the fitness tests but Rob’s rehab expertise and the first-class equipment at the gym had me performing better than I had done for months. I also booked in with The Commando Temple sports masseuse and their nutritionist who gave me a plan that was specially tailored to fuel my intense training. My 4 weeks with Rob left me mentally and physically prepared for the challenge of army training and without a doubt helped me pass out of Sandhurst as a commissioned officer in November 2020.
“We had Rob come and put us through our paces to get us ready for a play we were doing set in the Falklands during the Falklands war. Using his expertise as a Marine combined with that of a personal trainer he put us through a gruelling yet thoroughly rewarding workout that I wouldn’t hesitate to do again no matter how painful it seemed at the time. His no bullshit approach to working out pushes you to limits you didn’t even know you could reach and gets you the results you are ultimately looking for.
